New Delhi, January 2: The Indian government has issued a strong warning to X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk, demanding immediate removal of vulgar and unlawful content, particularly that generated by its AI app, Grok. Failure to comply will lead to legal consequences.
The Ministry of Electronics and IT has sent a notice to X's Chief Compliance Officer for India, citing violations of statutory due diligence obligations under the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
The notice, dated January 2, directs X to promptly remove or block access to any content that breaches Indian laws, ensuring compliance with the prescribed timelines set out in the IT Rules of 2021. The government has also emphasized that the removal must be done without compromising any evidence.
