Bhubaneswar, Jul 4: Heavy rainfall triggered by the prevailing low-pressure system has severely affected normal life in Odisha's capital, Bhubaneswar, with several parts of the city witnessing waterlogging.
To closely monitor the situation and ensure public safety, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is conducting round-the-clock surveillance through its Integrated Command and Control Centre. Civic authorities are tracking waterlogged areas in real time and coordinating emergency response measures.
BMC has deployed seven Rapid Action Teams, which have been placed on 24x7 alert to respond to emergencies. In addition, pump sets have been installed at 17 vulnerable locations across the city to facilitate quick drainage of accumulated rainwater.
BMC Additional Commissioner Shubhendu Kumar Sahu urged residents to report any rain-related problems by calling the civic helpline 1929. He also appealed to the public to cooperate with BMC personnel engaged in drainage and waterlogging management operations, particularly in areas where rainwater has accumulated.
The civic body said it is continuously monitoring the situation and has taken all necessary precautionary measures to minimise inconvenience and ensure the safety of residents as heavy rainfall continues across the city.
