Puri, May 9: A failed motorcycle start led to the capture of two alleged goat thieves in Samroi village under Balanga police limits on Friday afternoon. The accused had reportedly stolen two goats and loaded them onto a bike before attempting to flee. However, the motorcycle failed to start, giving villagers enough time to catch them.
According to sources, the goats belonged to Sushama Das of the village and were grazing near a canal embankment when the accused, identified as Balaji Pradhan of Budhapada in Jatni and another youth, allegedly took them away on a motorcycle. A villager noticed the incident from a distance and immediately raised an alarm.
As villagers rushed to the spot, the two accused tried to escape. However, their motorcycle failed to start, and they were overpowered by locals. The villagers reportedly thrashed the duo before informing the police.
On receiving information, Balanga police reached the spot, detained both accused persons, and seized the motorcycle used in the alleged theft. Further investigation is underway.
