Bhubaneswar mob lynching: Autopsy confirms severe head trauma caused Soumya's death

Bhubaneswar, June 11:The post-mortem report in the Balianta mob lynching case involving Soumya Ranjan Swain has revealed that severe head injuries were the primary cause of death. According to the report, Soumya sustained 21 external injuries across his body, indicating a brutal assault before his death.

Medical findings show that the victim suffered multiple forceful blows to the front, back and middle portions of the head, leading to extensive blood clotting and swelling. The report states that the injuries caused severe trauma to the brain, resulting in hemorrhaging in the frontal, lateral and posterior regions. Excessive bleeding was also detected in the lobe of the right cerebral hemisphere, with blood spreading into surrounding tissues.

The autopsy further found blood clots beneath the scalp and skull, as well as clotting in the lungs and heart. Fluid blood was present in both chambers of the heart. Doctors noted that Soumya experienced respiratory distress before his death and succumbed after enduring severe pain and trauma.

The report identifies deep injuries to the head and brain as the direct cause of death. Injury marks and bruises of varying sizes were found on the right eyebrow, nose, chin, right side of the head, left shoulder, back, hands and legs. Abrasion injuries were also detected on both hands.

To ascertain whether the deceased had consumed any intoxicating substances, samples of viscera, blood, urine, nails, hair and blood-stained gauze were collected and handed over to police for forensic examination. The post-mortem process was videographed.

While the original autopsy report has been submitted to the Superintendent of Capital Hospital, copies have been provided to the investigating police. However, the viscera examination report is yet to be released.
