Balangir, March 28: In a tragic road accident, at least five people, including the driver, were killed and more than 30 others injured after a tourist bus overturned near Pithakhai Ghat at Takera on the Khordha–Balangir highway on Saturday morning.

According to sources, around 50 tourists from the Berhampur area were travelling to Harishankar in Balangir district when the mishap occurred. The bus reportedly lost control while negotiating the ghat section and overturned by the roadside.

On receiving information, police and emergency teams rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. The injured passengers were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.

All the deceased and injured are said to be residents of the Berhampur area. Further investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
