Balasore, Jul 11: A married woman from Gopalgaon under Town Police Station limits in Odisha's Balasore district has gone missing under mysterious circumstances, with her family suspecting that she may have been lured away by the promise of gaining popularity and increasing followers on social media.

The missing woman, identified as Sanjita, reportedly worked at a private jewellery showroom in Balasore and was also an active content creator who regularly posted reels on social media platforms.

According to her family, Sanjita had been receiving frequent phone calls from an unidentified woman who allegedly encouraged her to leave home with the assurance of helping her gain more followers and popularity on social media.

As per the complaint lodged with the police, Sanjita left her house on July 5 without informing her husband or any family members. Despite extensive searches by the family, her whereabouts remain unknown, prompting them to file a missing person complaint at the Balasore Town Police Station.

Police have examined CCTV footage from the city, which shows Sanjita leaving her residence on a bicycle and heading towards the Balasore railway station. However, no further clues have emerged regarding her movements after that.

Five days after her disappearance, investigators have yet to trace her or establish the circumstances surrounding her disappearance. It remains unclear whether she left voluntarily, was misled, or became the victim of a larger conspiracy.

With no concrete breakthrough in the case so far, the anxious family continues to await answers while police pursue all possible leads. The incident has also raised concerns about the potential misuse of social media platforms and the risks associated with online promises of instant fame and follower growth.
