Jajpur, Jul 29: Rising water levels in the Baitarani River have triggered flood-like conditions in several parts of Odisha's Jajpur district, inundating multiple villages in Korei block and disrupting normal life. Following continuous inflow into the river, floodwaters entered several low-lying areas early on Wednesday morning, leaving hundreds of residents grappling with the situation.

According to local reports, villages under Gaurpur, Ranpur, Mukundpur, Bandal, and Mulapal gram panchayats have been affected as floodwaters spread into residential areas. Water began entering the villages before dawn, catching many residents off guard. As the water level continued to rise steadily throughout the morning, roads connecting the villages were submerged, cutting off several habitations from the outside world.

The flood has disrupted daily life, with movement becoming increasingly difficult due to submerged roads and overflowing drains. Residents have shifted essential belongings to safer places and are closely monitoring the rising water levels. Many families have moved to higher ground or taken shelter in safer locations as a precautionary measure.

The district administration has swung into action to deal with the emerging flood situation.
