Bhubaneswar, June 5: The investigation into the Soumya murder case has taken a new turn after an audio clip from the victim’s girlfriend surfaced, revealing a dispute between Soumya and his friend Om.
The audio reportedly indicates that Soumya and Om had disagreements over money related to a local gym. According to the girlfriend, Soumya had an argument with the gym owner over payments, after which Om also left the gym. The clip further suggests that Om discouraged others from visiting the gym by claiming it had shut down, escalating tensions between the two friends.
Crime Branch Director General Vinaytosh Mishra said the investigation team has identified several individuals using digital evidence and mobile data. He added that all persons present during the incident have been brought under the scope of inquiry, and arrests were made based on verified technical proof.
So far, police have arrested 18 people in connection with the case, with the possibility of more arrests as the probe continues. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is also closely monitoring the investigation.
Soumya’s girlfriend appeared before the commission on Thursday, along with officials from Balipatna police station and the Crime Branch. Investigators have recorded Om’s statement and are expecting further leads from the girlfriend’s deposition.
