Balasore, March 26: In a daring late-night robbery, armed miscreants looted cash and gold ornaments worth around ₹50 lakh from a house in Nilgiri area of Balasore district.
The incident took place at Kahalia village under Ward No. 9 of Nilgiri NAC, where six armed robbers stormed into the residence of Govinda Singh while the family was having dinner.
According to sources, the miscreants, armed with guns and sharp weapons, entered the dining hall and overpowered the family members. They gagged the house owner and women members using black tape and held them at gunpoint. The robbers then snatched mobile phones and demanded keys to the locker.
Fearing for their lives, the family handed over the keys, following which the accused looted around ₹20 lakh in cash and gold ornaments worth ₹30 lakh. The miscreants later fled the scene on two motorcycles.
On receiving information, Nilgiri police reached the spot and began an investigation. IIC Gobardhan Nayak inspected the scene. As per the victim’s statement, two of the accused were locals, while the remaining four were from outside the state.
Further investigation is underway.
