Angul, May 4: A dramatic twist has emerged in the high-profile theft at the Boyanika showroom in Odisha’s Angul, where sarees worth over ₹7 lakh were stolen. The accused, a gang comprising six women and one man, have returned most of the stolen items after coming under police radar.
According to sources, the gang couriered back 24 out of the 25 stolen sarees to the showroom authorities, allegedly fearing imminent arrest. They also reportedly contacted the management, requesting withdrawal of the case.
The incident took place on April 11 between 1 pm and 1:30 pm, when the group arrived in a luxury car and executed the theft in a planned manner, making away with sarees worth ₹7.18 lakh.
Following a complaint, Angul Town Police launched an intensive investigation, forming two special teams. CCTV footage from the showroom played a crucial role in tracking the suspects, and the visuals soon went viral, increasing pressure on the accused.
Police sources revealed that the identities and location of the gang members have been traced. A team is now preparing to travel to Telangana to apprehend the accused.
Despite the partial recovery of stolen items, police have made it clear that legal action will proceed and arrests will be carried out soon.
