Angul, Jan 12: A 72-year-old woman was tragically trampled to death by a wild elephant in Sankhapur village under Bantala tehsil, within the Angul Forest Division of Angul district, on Monday.

The deceased, identified as Ichha Dehuri, was a resident of Sankhapur village.

Reports suggest that Dehuri had gone behind her house early in the morning for defecation when the wild elephant attacked. The animal dragged and trampled her, causing severe injuries.

Her family members quickly rushed her to the Angul District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), but doctors declared her dead on arrival.

This incident marks the third death in the Angul Forest Division from elephant attacks in the past 14 days, sparking growing concerns over the escalating human–elephant conflict in the region.
