Jajpur, May 4: In a tragic road accident, at least five people lost their lives while several others sustained injuries on National Highway No. 53 near Barada Chhak in Odisha’s Jajpur district.

According to reports, the victims were returning from a wedding ceremony in the Badachana area when their Bolero vehicle rammed into a stationary Hyva truck parked along the roadside. The impact of the collision was so severe that several passengers were trapped inside the vehicle.

On being informed, local residents rushed to the spot and alerted the police and fire brigade. Rescue teams promptly reached the scene and carried out an operation to extricate the trapped passengers.

A total of 10 persons were rescued, out of which five succumbed to their injuries. The injured were initially admitted to a nearby medical facility, while some critically injured victims were later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for advanced treatment. Two children are reported to be safe.

Police officials, including the Jajpur SDPO along with Badachana and Jenapur police teams, have reached the spot and initiated an investigation into the incident.
