Asika, Dec 26: A fatal hit-and-run accident was reported near the Khandarabali under Asika block in Ganjam district on Thursday. One person was killed after being hit by an unidentified vehicle.

The deceased has been identified as Amar Bisoyi, son of Hari Bisoyi of Khandarabali village. According to sources, Amar was crossing the road when an unknown vehicle knocked him down and fled the scene. He died on the spot.

Following the incident, tension prevailed in the area as local residents staged a road blockade demanding compensation for the victim’s family. The blockade disrupted vehicular movement on the Asika–Bhanjanagar road, causing inconvenience to commuters.

Upon receiving information, Gangapur police rushed to the spot and initiated talks with the protesters to clear the road and restore traffic. Police are also making arrangements to send the body for post-mortem examination. An investigation into the incident has been initiated.
