New Delhi, June 3: The Union government is preparing to introduce an impeachment motion against Justice Yashwant Varma during the upcoming session of Parliament, . The move follows serious allegations of corruption against the Allahabad High Court judge.

It is believed that Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju will initiate discussions with leaders from various political parties to build a consensus on the motion. The action is being taken after a three-member inquiry panel, set up by then Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, reportedly indicted Justice Varma.

The case came to light following a fire at Justice Varma’s residence in Delhi in March, when he was serving at the Delhi High Court. Emergency personnel responding to the incident allegedly discovered large quantities of cash stored in sacks in the outhouse, prompting further investigation.

The government aims to secure cross-party support for what could become a rare judicial impeachment process in India’s parliamentary history.
