Bhubaneswar, Aug 21: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across Odisha over the next six days due to active monsoon conditions, a trough from Jaisalmer to the Bay of Bengal, and a cyclonic circulation over north Odisha.

Several districts have been placed under Yellow and Orange alerts between August 21–27, with warnings of thunderstorms, gusty winds, and lightning. Coastal and western Odisha districts like Puri, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar are among the worst affected in the forecast period.

The IMD has cautioned of possible crop damage, waterlogging, traffic disruption, and localized flooding. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea till August 23. Residents are urged to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid risky areas, and remain alert to official updates.
