Bhubaneswar, May 20: The cyclonic circulation over Gangetic West Bengal & neighbourhood now lies over Northwest Bay of Bengal & adjoining north Odisha-West Bengal coasts at 3.1 km above mean sea level, the IMD said on Monday.
A Low Pressure Area is likely to form over Southwest Bay of Bengal around May 22. It is likely to move initially northeastwards and concentrate into a depression over central parts of Bay of Bengal by May 24 morning, it added.
Light to moderate rain and thundershower activities are expected in some parts of north Odisha and Malkangiri, Koraput and Nabarangpur districts on May 22 and 23.
Fishermen are advised not to venture into central Bay of Bengal from May 23 and into North Bay of Bengal from May 24 onwards. Fishermen who were out at sea are advised to return to the coast before May 23.
The monsoon has advanced into the Nicobar Islands and the South Andaman Sea. The monsoon is anticipated to arrive in Odisha in the second week of June. The low-pressure area would help advance the monsoon over the Andaman Sea and the adjacent Bay of Bengal, the IMD said.
