Bhubaneswar, January 17: In a bid to strengthen road safety and ensure strict traffic law enforcement, the Central Range Police of Cuttack launched an intensive operation under Operation Jeevan Rakshya across several districts.

The drive covered Puri, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Khordha, and Nayagarh districts, with 1,729 vehicles inspected on Saturday. A total fine of ₹8,83,000 was levied for various traffic violations, including inspections of 10 buses and commercial vehicles. The highest fine was reported in Puri, amounting to ₹2,92,500, followed by ₹2,55,500 in Khordha.

Between January 7 and 16, a cumulative total of 12,645 vehicles were checked, and fines amounting to ₹53,17,000 were collected. Additionally, 34 buses/commercial vehicles and 60 heavy transport vehicles were inspected during the drive.

Operation Jeevan Rakshya, launched to reduce road accidents, ensure adherence to traffic regulations, and promote safe driving practices, has gained significant traction.

Dr. Satyajit Naik, IG of Central Range, Cuttack, emphasized the commitment of the police to public safety and urged citizens to adhere to traffic rules, use protective gear, avoid speeding, and refrain from driving under the influence.
