Bhubaneswar, July 2: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted above normal rainfall activities for Odisha in July.
India is most likely to receive normal to above normal rainfall in July. There is 35 percent to 45 percent probability of Odisha receiving above normal rains in the month which will boost agricultural activities and help farmers in sowing crops, said the IMD.
There is 75 percent possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Debagarh, Dhenkanal and Kendrapara districts of the state this month. Besides, other districts are expected to receive heavy rainfall, it added.
The IMD has predicted rain in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Debagarh, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur districts on July 2.
Odisha has suffered a 24 per cent rain deficit in June. The rain deficit in June is due to sluggish progress of the monsoon, formation of only one low pressure system over Bay of Bengal against an average of three in June and weak Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO), said weather experts.
