Bhubaneswar, Aug 21: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy rainfall in various parts of Odisha, with the downpour expected to continue until August 25.
As per the Regional Meteorological Centre, districts including Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Balasore, and Bargarh are likely to experience intense rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms today. A yellow warning has been issued for these regions, signaling potential disruptions due to the adverse weather conditions.
On August 22, the IMD predicts that Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Bargarh will receive substantial rainfall, with the possibility of thunderstorms further complicating the weather conditions.
Additionally, heavy rainfall is forecasted for parts of North and Western Odisha on August 23 and 24, further raising concerns about possible disruptions in these regions. Residents are urged to stay prepared and take necessary precautions.
The IMD has also issued a yellow warning for 20 districts in Odisha due to the risk of thunderstorms. The affected districts include Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.
In terms of recent rainfall, Dhenkanal recorded 27.4 mm on Wednesday, followed by Jagatsinghpur with 21.1 mm, Paralakhemundi at 15.2 mm, and Talcher with 13.8 mm.
The IMD has advised residents to stay vigilant, follow weather updates, and take necessary steps to ensure safety during the ongoing weather conditions.
