IMD issues alert as Low Pressure system develops in BoB

Bhubaneswar, Amy 21: A low pressure area is likely to form over the Southwest Bay of Bengal tomorrow. This weather phenomenon is expected to track northeastwards initially, culminating into a Depression over the central regions of the Bay of Bengal by the morning of May 25, 2024. In response to this forecast, an alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, and Mayurbhanj. Moreover, heavy rainfall is highly probable in one or two areas encompassing Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Jajpur, and Keonjhar.
Additionally, fishermen have been cautioned against venturing into the central Bay of Bengal from May 23 onwards, as well as into the North Bay of Bengal from May 24 onwards. Fishermen currently at sea are advised to return to the coast before May 23 to avoid potential hazards.
The alert remains in effect from May 25 until 08:30 hours on May 26, urging residents and maritime communities to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions.
