Bhubaneswar, May 21: A low-pressure area is expected to form over the east-central Arabian Sea and nearby coastal regions of north Karnataka and Goa within the next 12 hours, due to a well-marked cyclonic circulation in the region.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) scientist Umashankar Das, the weather system is likely to move northwards and gradually intensify. It is forecast to develop into a depression within 36 hours. In Odisha, several areas experienced rainfall, with the highest recorded in Jharsuguda at 55.4 mm. The IMD predicts that many parts of the state will continue to receive light to moderate rain over the next seven days. Meanwhile, heat conditions persist in parts of Odisha, with Sambalpur recording the highest temperature at 42°C on May 20.
A Yellow Warning has been issued for 13 districts, i,e Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Kalahandi, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri. These areas may witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and wind speeds ranging between 30 to 40 kmph.
