Bhubaneswar, July 23: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall across several districts of Odisha over the next few days.
According to the latest mid-day bulletin released by the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre on Wednesday, the state is likely to experience intense rainfall activity till July 28.
The IMD anticipated a spell of rainfall from a developing weather system in the Bay of Bengal. A cyclonic circulation, which is a remnant of the former tropical cyclone WIPHA, is likely to emerge over the north Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours. This evolving system is expected to intensify and lead to the formation of a low-pressure area over the same region.
The meteorological office stated that the formation of the low-pressure area, coupled with the existing monsoonal conditions, will significantly enhance rainfall activity across coastal and interior parts of Odisha. Districts located in northern, central, and coastal belts may witness widespread showers, with isolated places receiving heavy to very heavy downpour.
Authorities have been advised to remain on alert, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas. The IMD has also urged fishermen not to venture into the sea due to likely rough conditions in the Bay of Bengal during this period.
The state government and disaster management teams are closely monitoring the evolving weather situation and have been asked to stay prepared for any emergency response, including evacuation or relief measures, if required.
