Illegal firecrackers worth ₹6 Lakh seized from Sundarpur Medical, One detained

Chhatrapur, Oct 7: In a fresh crackdown ahead of the festive season, Chhatrapur police seized illegal firecrackers worth over ₹6 lakh from Sundarpur village on Monday. The raid was carried out at two separate locations, including a storage area inside the premises of a medical facility. One individual has been detained for illegal possession.

According to sources, the accused, Santosh Behera of Sundarpur, had allegedly stored the firecrackers inside a water tank room at the medical premises and at another undisclosed location. Acting on specific intelligence, a police team led by SDPO Chandan Ghadei and IIC Sabyasachi Mall conducted the raid and confiscated the explosives.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the firecrackers were sourced from Dengapadar village in Ganjam district. Notably, this comes just weeks after a similar seizure in the same area, where crackers worth ₹10 lakh were confiscated.

Police have registered a case and are interrogating the detained individual. Further investigation is underway to uncover the supply chain and ascertain whether more stockpiles exist in nearby areas.
