Bhubaneswar, Sep 13: Police on Wednesday busted an illegal cough syrup racket in Bhubaneswar and seized 205 cough syrup bottles. Police also arrested a drug dealer in this connection.
The accused has been identified as Akshya Kumar Behera of Ravi Talkies, Bhubaneswar.
The racket was unearthed when Excise police carried out a raid at the premises of Behera and seized the cough syrup bottles. During primary investigation, police learnt about another dealer who used to transport cough syrup bottles from Raipur of Chhatisgarh.
“The arrested accused was sent to custody after his bail rejected. Though we had tried to arrest another person but he escaped from his residence. There is a huge amount of profit in this business mainly due to the fact that young people of the middle age are using this drug. However, a special team was formed to nab the absconding accused and ascertain more details in this regard”, Said police
