Kendrapada, Sept 6: At least 9 persons including a nurse and the paramour were arrested in Odisha’s Kendrapada Town on Friday for allegedly performing illegal abortion of an unmarried student.
Acting on the basis of a complaint lodged by the girl’s family members, the Sadar police conducted a raid on a nursing home located at Station Bazar area in Cuttack and seized some surgical instruments used for the illegal abortion.
The accused have been identified as Paresh Barik (Paramour),Bhabani Das, Manasi Rout (Nurse), Nijit Mahapatra, Biswajit Dutta, Priyabrata Senapati, Nilipsa Ranjan Das, Mamina Mahapatra, and Madhusmita Swain.
According to the complaint, a girl who is a law student, was allegedly impregnated by her boyfriend Paresh Barik. Later, she was forced to abort the fetus despite a 4-year livein relationship on the pretext of marriage.
Accordingly, on August 6, Barik took the girl to a Nursing Home in Cuttack where the abortion was secretly carried out. To hide the illegal act, the girl was subsequently lodged in a girls’ hostel for a few days after the abortion procedure.
After leaving the hostel, the girl accompanied with her brother filed a complaint with the police in this connection following which the Police and Cuttack Health Administraion busted the illegal abortion racket.
