Balasore, Oct 6: In view of the impending festive season and the recent unrest in Cuttack, the Balasore district admin has imposed night curfew in the Balasore Municipality from Monday.

The Collector & DM, Balasore issued notification in this connection this evening.

According to the order,  to maintain law and order during the festive period, especially ahead of Diwali, the Balasore district administration  directed that all shops and commercial establishments within the Balasore Municipality area in the Balasore town must close by 10 PM till October 21, 2025.

The order also read that many shops in the town remain open till late night. It leads to large gatherings and poses a potential risk of law-and-order disturbances.

To prevent any untoward incidents during the festive season, the Collector has instructed the Superintendent of Police, Balasore, to ensure strict patrolling in the town area and to enforce the early closure directive, except for emergency services.

Tahasildar, Balasore, and the Executive Officer, Balasore Municipality, have also been asked to ensure compliance and coordination in this regard.
