IIM Sambalpur hosts World Water Day 2026 celebrations

Sambalpur, March 23: Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Sambalpur hosted the World Water Day 2026 celebration, organised by Youth4Water-India, with the theme “Our Water Bodies, Our Pride.”

The event aimed to raise awareness about water conservation and climate action through youth-led initiatives and community participation.

The event was graced by Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director, IIM Sambalpur, as the chief guest. Other distinguished guests included Ranjan Panda, founder-mentor, Youth4Water, Deboo Patanaik, entrepreneur & author, Rajashree Purohit, agronomist, UN World Food Programme, and Manoranjan Behera, Managing Director, AJSA India. Additionally, the celebration marks the 7th anniversary of Youth4Water-India.The outstanding work in water management carried out by various NGOs and individuals was recognised and awarded with certificates at the event.

Addressing the gathering, the chief Guestof the event, Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal, “At IIM Sambalpur, we go beyond classrooms- promoting inclusive, innovation-led learning while staying rooted in sustainability and grassroots impact. As humans and machines evolve together, our true progress lies in how responsibly we protect what sustains us. Saving water today is securing life tomorrow.”

On the occasion, Ranjan Panda encouraged students to adopt sustainable practices and conserve water.

Rajashree Purohit emphasised that women are the most impacted by the lack of safe drinking water, and stressed that empowering women through leadership roles for responsible water management.
