Puri, June 26: In view of the upcoming Devasnana Purnima scheduled to be observed on 29th June 2026, Dr. Satyajit Naik, Inspector General of Police, Central Range, Odisha, along with Prateek Singh, Superintendent of Police, Puri, conducted a comprehensive review of the security, traffic management and crowd-control arrangements to ensure smooth and peaceful conduct of the sacred festival.
The review meeting was attended by senior police officers, of Puri district. Detail discussions were held regarding security deployment, traffic regulation, emergency response, pilgrim facilitation and inter-departmental coordination. The officers also reviewed the preparedness of field formations and directed all personnel to remain vigilant and responsive throughout the festival period.
This year, nearly 3 to 4 lakh devotees are expected to visit the Holy City of Puri to witness the sacred Snana Yatra of the Chaturdha Murti—Mahaprabhu Shri Jagannath, Shri Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra and Chakraraj Shri Sudarshan.
To ensure a safe and hassle-free experience for devotees, Odisha Police has made elaborate security arrangements with round-the-clock deployment commencing from the night of 28th June 2026. The deployment includes 4 Commandants/SP-rank officers, 14 Additional SPs/Deputy Commandants, 31 DSPs/Assistant Commandants, 83 Inspectors/Sub-Inspectors, 340 SIs/ASIs and 79 platoons of police force, supported by specialized units.
The security strategy is based on a comprehensive six-point action plan, viz Crowd management inside and outside the Shri Jagannath Temple, Traffic regulation and parking management,Security and VIP protection, Pilgrim assistance and public facilitation, Emergency response and disaster preparedness and effective supervision and coordination among all agencies.
Special emphasis has been laid on sector-wise deployment, one-way movement of devotees, barricading at vulnerable locations, deployment of striking forces and continuous monitoring of crowd movement. Traffic diversions, designated parking zones and regulated entry and exit routes have been planned to minimise congestion.
Advanced security measures including Quick Action Teams (QATs), sniffer dog squads, rooftop surveillance, Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) monitoring, anti-sabotage checks and marine security arrangements have also been put in place. Help desks, Police Control Rooms (PCRs), medical assistance centres and dedicated support for senior citizens, women, children and Divyang devotees will remain operational throughout the festival.
During the review, IGP Dr. Satyajit Naik, directed all officers to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, discipline and public service. He stressed that every devotee should be able to participate in the sacred festival safely, peacefully and with dignity through seamless coordination among all stakeholders. He appealed to devotees to cooperate with the police, follow traffic advisories, use designated routes and parking areas, avoid carrying prohibited items and immediately report any suspicious activity to the nearest police personnel or help desk.
SP Puri Prateek Singh, stated that extensive preparations have been made to ensure robust security, efficient traffic management and prompt emergency response.
