Rourkela, June 14: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the 134 Battalion, Satyaban Singh, succumbed to injuries sustained in an IED explosion triggered by Maoists during a combing operation in Sundargarh district on Saturday morning.
The incident occurred in the Banko forest area near Saranda, under the jurisdiction of K. Balang Police Station, where security forces were conducting an anti-Maoist operation. During the course of the operation, Maoist insurgents detonated an improvised explosive device, critically injuring ASI Singh.
He was immediately airlifted to a private hospital in Rourkela for urgent medical treatment. Despite all efforts by the medical team, he passed away while undergoing treatment.
The mortal remains of the martyred ASI were later transported to Ranchi via helicopter. Police sources have confirmed that Singh was a native of Uttar Pradesh.
