Dubai, Aug 27: They scripted history together recently for Sri Lanka by winning the maiden Asia Cup for the island nation.
Their historic celebrations against seven-time Asia Cup champions came on their own home turf. They again dazzled for Sri Lanka in the recent ODI series against Ireland.
With the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024 nearing and they both being busy in the Women's Caribbean Premier League (WCPL), Sri Lanka skipper Chamari Athapaththu and her teammate Harshitha Samarawickrama have reasons to feel elated.
As per the latest ICC rankings, they have both gained big in their ODI rankings. Athapaththu gained six rating points to retain her position in fourth and close in on the No1 ranked ODI batter in the world Nat Sciver-Brunt, while teammate Harshitha Samarawickrama improved 15 places to rise to 29th spot.
Lankan seamer Achini Kulasuriya also gained a new career-best rating following her three-wicket haul against Ireland, with the right-arm pacer moving up eight places to 36th on the updated list for ODI bowlers, the ICC release revealed.
