Showers and thick fog will impact various Odisha districts today

Meteorological conditions across Odisha are shifting as the regional weather office predicts a mix of light rain, dense fog, and an upcoming dip in night temperatures. According to the latest data from the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, dry weather previously dominated the state, but a brief spell of precipitation is now expected in specific pockets over the next 48 hours.

Rain Forecast for Coastal and Interior Districts

Isolated light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers are very likely to occur in several parts of the state during the first two days of the forecast period. On Day 1, districts including Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, and several southern regions like Koraput and Rayagada may experience showers. By Day 2, the rain activity is expected to shift primarily toward the coastal belt and northern districts such as Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, and Puri. From Day 3 onwards, dry conditions will return and prevail across all districts for the remainder of the week.

Dense Fog and Visibility Alerts

Commuters should exercise caution as thick fog is currently affecting visibility in multiple areas. Chandbali recently recorded dense fog with visibility dropping below 200 meters. Moderate fog has been reported in Balasore, Jajpur, and Kendrapara, while Keonjhar experienced shallow fog. For the next 24 hours, early morning fog is highly likely in isolated pockets of Khordha, Cuttack, Puri, and Mayurbhanj, among others.

Expected Temperature Changes

Recent recordings show that Jharsuguda reached a high of 36.6°C, while Phulbani saw the lowest minimum in the plains at 14.0°C. G. Udayagiri remains the coldest spot overall at 11.0°C. While no major changes in minimum temperatures are expected for the next two days, residents should prepare for a noticeable chill soon. A drop of 2-3°C in night temperatures is forecasted during the subsequent three days across the state.

Weather in Capital Region

Bhubaneswar and Cuttack are expected to remain mostly dry with maximum temperatures hovering around 35.7°C and 32.8°C respectively. While no significant rainfall is predicted for the twin cities today, the morning hours may still witness light mist or shallow fog.
