Bhubaneswar, Nov 1: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) today interrogated several people who have queued up before the regional office of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in Bhubaneswar to exchange notes of 2000 denomination.
The agency swung into action after allegations of business establishments commissioning daily wagers for exchange of notes surfaced.
The agency today interrogated several people to ascertain the source of 2000 denominations. The regional office of RBI witnessed unprecedented rush of people to exchange notes on Tuesday while most of the people claimed that they have been deployed by agencies in lieu of commission in between Rs 300 and Rs 500 for exchange of notes.
Several daily wagers feigned ignorance about the source of money. RBI officials, on the other hand claimed that they have kept the identity proof of people who have exchanged and deposited notes. The officials also said that the people who visited the RBI for exchange of notes are also being photographed and they will share the details with the concerned agencies if required.
After the deadline to deposit and exchange Rs 2,000 currency notes at banks ended on October 7, individuals are now lining up at RBI to exchange the currency notes of 2000 denomination.
