Bhubaneswar, Sep 10: Odisha Chief Minister Moha n Charan Majhi has expressed concern over the rescue of five orangutan infants in Balasore district and directed the concerned authorities to conduct a detailed investigation into the circumstances under which the rare animals were brought into the state.
He directed officials to establish how the orangutans reached Balasore, trace their route into the state, and determine the circumstances and background surrounding their transportation.
The Chief Minister made it clear that Odisha must never become a transit route for the illegal movement of exotic wildlife.
He directed the authorities to identify any network or individuals involved in the unlawful transportation of foreign wildlife and ensure that strict legal action is taken against those responsible.
The investigation has been tasked with determining several key aspects of the case, including the route through which the rare animals were brought to Odisha, how they entered the state, who was involved in their transportation, and the purpose for which they were being moved.
Majhi has also directed the authorities to coordinate closely with the concerned agencies of the Government of India, the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB), and other wildlife protection and law-enforcement agencies to ensure a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, the rescued orangutans are being provided with appropriate medical treatment, protection, and necessary care in accordance with established wildlife protection protocols while the investigation remains underway.
