Bhubaneswar: The host Odisha Police team started their campaign with a winning note in the 73rd All India Police Hockey Championship at Kalinga Stadium here on Wednesday.
The team lead by Olympian Birendra Lakra edged out Uttar Pradesh by 2-1 goals.
All together seven matches played in the third day of the championship. Uttarakhand, ITBP, Manipur, West Bengal and Jammu and Kashmir defeated Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Gujarat by 9-0, 8-3, 3-1, 6-3 and 18-0 respectively.
Defending champion SSB women's dominated the show by winning over Gujarat 17-0 goals.
Higher Education Secretary Arabinda Agarwal, Finance Secretary Saswat Mishra, Vigilance Director Yeshwat Kumar Jethwa, Additional Police Director Sanjay Kumar, Police Commissioner Debadatta Singh, Organizing Committee Chairman Dayal Gangwar, Rajesh Kumar and Organizing Committe Secretary Anup Kumar Sahu were joined the championship as the guest.
