Sambalpur, January 11: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday laid the foundation stone for a mega drinking water project worth Rs 451.24 crore for Sambalpur to provide 24-hour pure drinking water for the residents of Sambalpur city.

“The project will come up at a cost of Rs 451.24 crore under AMRUT 2.0 – Drink from Tap scheme. A total of 340 km of new water pipelines will be laid across the Sambalpur city. The project will provide 100 MLD drinking water supply once completed,” said the Chief Minister.

The project will benefit nearly 5 lakh people across 41 wards in Sambalupur city. An intake well and two water treatment plants will be set up for the purpose, said Majhi

Under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), country targets to have access to clean water for all urban citizens, increase coverage of sewerage and septage.

The AMRUT 2.0 scheme was launched on October 1, 2021 for the period of five years - from the financial year 2021-22 to the financial year 2025-26. AMRUT 2.0. It is designed to provide universal coverage of water supply through functional taps to all households in all the statutory towns in the country and coverage of sewerage/septage management in 500 cities covered in the first phase of the AMRUT scheme.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated a new modern trauma care facility, OPD building and Central Sterile Supply Department building at the Sambalpur District Headquarters Hospital today. These projects were executed at a cost of Rs 23.81 crore.

Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Sursh Pujari, Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Minister Rabi Narayan Naik, Sambalpur MLA Jaynarayan Mishra attended the both the launch events.
