Bhubaneswar, Nov 26: A deep depression over the northeast of Indonesia has intensified into Cyclone Senyar, according to meteorologist Umashankar Das. Satellite observations confirm that the system strengthened into a cyclonic storm around 5:30 a.m.

The cyclone has developed near the Malacca Strait, close to northeastern Indonesia. Currently, Senyar is positioned about 100 km east of Kut Makmur in Indonesia and nearly 600 km from Malaysia. The system is expected to move west–southwest before turning eastward. Forecasts indicate that Senayar is likely to cross the Indonesian coast by Wednesday afternoon.

In a separate development, a low-pressure area has formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining regions of southern Sri Lanka and the Indian Ocean.
