Rajkot, May 31: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is slated to visit Rajkot today to review the aftermath of a recent fire incident and evaluate the response actions taken by local authorities.
The Home Minister, currently on a pilgrimage to Somnath, is expected to arrive at Hirasa Airport around 3 PM.
During his visit, Shah will receive a comprehensive briefing from officials and authorities regarding the fire tragedy, which has resulted in the loss of 27 lives, including children.
In the wake of the incident, the Rajkot Crime Branch detained Town Planning Officer M.D. Sagathia and Fire Officer B.J. Theba from the Rajkot Municipal Corporation for questioning. They are being probed regarding the operation of a gaming zone without necessary approvals such as a no-objection certificate, an approved layout plan, a building-use certificate, and proper fire clearances.
Furthermore, investigations have led to the arrest of the gaming zone owners, namely Yuvrajsinh Solanki, Rahul Rathod, Dhaval Thakkar, and Kiritsinh Jadeja. Prakash Hiran, another owner, was confirmed deceased in the fire through a DNA test conducted on Tuesday. Additionally, the manager, Nitin Jain, is currently in police custody.
The accused individuals face charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 304 for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, Section 308 for attempt to commit culpable homicide, Section 337 for causing hurt by an act that endangers the life or personal safety of others, Section 338 for causing grievous hurt by an act that endangers life or personal safety, and Section 114 for abetment of any offence if the abettor is present when the offence is committed.
