Cuttack, Aug 20: Remember former India leg-spinner Narendra Deepchand Hirwani, who grabbed 16 wickets against West Indies in the Chennai Test in 1987-88 and was awarded Man of the Match?
The be-spectacled 19-year-old Hirwani fashioned India's massive 255 runs victory in that Test, with his magical spells grabbing 8 wickets each in both innings of the fourth game of the series.
In that Test, there were two more youngsters WV Raman and Ajay Sharma too made their debuts. But it was Hirwani, who hit the headlines for his impactful performance.
Hirwani was magical as a leggie with his turn, guile, trajectory and googly. In 17 Tests for India, he scalped 66 wickets and had 23 wickets in 18 ODIs. He dominated Indian domestic cricket for years playing for his home state Madhya Pradesh and Bengal as well.
Hirwani will be spearheading a spin-bowling camp in Odisha from August 21 to 30, here. He is likely to guide, train and share his knowledge with selected Odisha State Cricketers of all age groups. He will also impart coaching to Odisha State Women Cricketers, informed Odisha Cricket Association sources on Tuesday.
