Hero Launches "Futuristic" New Commuter Bike
Hero MotoCorp is set to redefine the 125cc commuter segment with the launch of its new Glamour X 125. Billed as "India's most futuristic commuter," the new motorcycle is packed with a host of advanced and segment-first features. This launch signals a clear strategy by the world's largest two-wheeler manufacturer to dominate the market not just on volume, but by creating a new premium-tech category for daily riders. The move is a bold gamble that modern commuters are ready to prioritize technology and features alongside traditional demands for mileage and reliability.
Premium Tech in a Commuter Package
The standout feature of the Glamour X is the inclusion of cruise control, making it the first 125cc motorcycle and the most affordable bike in the country to offer this technology. This feature, previously exclusive to high-end touring motorcycles, promises greater comfort on longer highway stretches. Complementing this is a new full-color TFT display, likely borrowed from its larger siblings, which offers Bluetooth connectivity for call and SMS alerts, as well as turn-by-turn navigation. This transforms the instrument cluster from a simple information panel into a smart, connected hub. Further enhancing its modern credentials, the Glamour X comes with selectable ride modes—eco, road, and power—another first in this space. These modes will likely adjust the engine's throttle response to either maximize fuel efficiency or deliver sharper performance. Other notable features include a convenient USB charging port and a full LED headlamp with integrated indicators, completing a comprehensive and modern electronics package.
Proven Mechanics, Sportier Look
While the electronics are all new, the bike is built around the proven 124.7cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine from the existing Glamour, paired with a smooth 5-speed transmission. By retaining this reliable and fuel-efficient powertrain, Hero ensures the bike's core commuter credentials remain intact. The styling, however, has been significantly updated for a sportier and more aggressive look. It borrows design cues from larger Hero models like the Xtreme 250R, featuring sharp tank shrouds, new graphics, and updated alloy wheels. This visual overhaul is clearly aimed at attracting a younger demographic that desires a motorcycle that looks as modern as the technology it carries.
With the current Glamour Xtec priced just under ₹96,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the new, more advanced Glamour X is expected to cross the ₹1 lakh mark. This positions it as a premium offering in the 125cc space. Hero is clearly betting that its suite of high-tech features will be enough to tempt buyers away from its primary rivals, the feature-rich TVS Raider 125 and the refined Honda CB125 Hornet. The success of the Glamour X will depend on whether customers in this price-sensitive segment are willing to pay a premium for a truly "futuristic" commuting experience.
