Malkangiri, Sept 9: Incessant heavy rainfall has caused severe disruptions in Malkangiri district, with communication on NH-326 being severely affected on Monday. Flood waters have to 5-6 feet in several areas, isolating residents in their homes. Since Sunday, hundreds of vehicles, including those carrying essential supplies, have been stranded across the district.
The deluge has severed communication links between Kalimela and Motu, with flood waters covering culverts on MV-90 and MV-96. The connection between Malkangiri and Koraput districts has been completely cut off, and flood waters from the Poteru River have inundated nearby villages.
Several homes have been submerged, and traffic between Jeypore and Malkangiri has been halted, as flood waters on the Pangam River have raised to 10 feet above the culvert. Other affected areas include MV 7, Poteru, Kangurukunda, MV90, MV 96, Pangam, and Kanyashram.
With additional rainfall forecasted for the next 24 hours, the risk of further flooding remains high.
