Bhubaneswar, Sep 2: The capital city received heavy rain with thunderstorms and lightning at mid-day on Saturday. The people of the city are in a state of panic after witnessing back-to-back explosive thunderstorms and lightning. The city has recorded 71 mm rainfall, as per reports. The downpour led to waterlogging in multiple low-lying areas across the city, while also trapping vehicles in the floodwater.
The regional center of India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted light to moderate rain and thunderstorms for ten districts of Odisha including Bhubaneswar.
Meanwhile, the residents of the capital city got a sigh of relief from the rising humidity level as the thunderstorms and lightning were accompanied by severe downpour.
"Heavy rain may last the state for four days from September 2 with the likely formation of a cyclonic circulation over North Bay of Bengal around September 3 and its probable intensification into a low-pressure area during subsequent 48 hours,” informed weatherman.
