Bhubaneswar, August 26: Odisha is bracing for another spell of heavy rainfall, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting the formation of a fresh low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal within the next 48 hours.
A cyclonic circulation currently persisting over the west-central Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a low-pressure system soon. This development is likely to trigger widespread heavy rainfall across several districts of the state from Wednesday through August 29.
According to the IMD, the system may further strengthen over the next two days, leading to increased rainfall activity in both coastal and interior parts of Odisha. Meanwhile, many areas continue to receive showers due to the existing cyclonic circulation.
In view of the forecast, the IMD has issued a yellow warning for 10 districts over the next 24 hours, cautioning about potential waterlogging, flash floods, and disruption of transport. Coastal Odisha and parts of neighboring West Bengal are expected to bear the brunt as the weather system intensifies.
Authorities have advised district administrations to remain on alert, particularly in flood-prone areas where river levels remain elevated due to recent rainfall.
