Heavy rain expected in Odisha and south Bengal during Durga Puja due to new low-pressure area

Bhubaneswar, September 27: Durga Puja celebrations in Odisha and South Bengal could face disruption as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted the formation of a new low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal on October 1.

This weather system is expected to bring rain to several parts of the region over the next week, with heavy showers expected in some districts of South Bengal.

The five-day Durga Puja festival, which kicks off on September 28 and culminates on October 2 with 'Vijaya Dashami,' might witness some rain delays, though idol immersions typically take place later.

The ongoing depression in the region is forecasted to move towards South Odisha and Chhattisgarh, gradually weakening into a well-marked low-pressure area by Sunday. The IMD has advised caution as heavy rainfall could affect outdoor festivities in some areas.
