​​​​​​​Dhenkanal, Oct 19: In a rare instance of crime, a man reportedly saved his daughter from a youth who was allegedly trying to sexually assault her; however he killed the perpetrator on spot.

A man at Kamakshyanagar in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district committed a gruesome crime himself while preventing cruelty towards his daughter.

The incident took place in the Mohanpashi village under the Parjang Police limit wherein one Rupa Pingua killed Karunakar Behera, a JCB helper, for sexually assaulting his daughter.

After beating Behera to death Pingua surrendered himself before the police.

According to reports, Karunakar Behara was temporarily staying in Mohanpashi village for some excavation works, going on there. Behera tried to sexually assault Pingua’s daughter finding him alone at a secluded place on Saturday. Responding to the girl’s scream, Pingua rushed to the spot, saved his daughter and caught the accused red-handed. Consequently, the enraged man thrashed Karunakar to death, left the body beside a canal and moved Dadaraghati police outpost to surrender.

On being informed, the Parjang Police rushed to the crime spot and recovered the body.

A case was registered in this connection while the body was sent to hospital for post-mortem examination. An investigation is underway to ascertain the precise reason behind the murder, said the police.
