Bhubaneswar, June 9: Ahead of the upcoming Rath Yatra, the Health Minister Maukesh Mahaling has urged the public not to panic about COVID-19, stating that the current situation remains under control. Addressing a coordination meeting for the festival, the minister confirmed that only a low-intensity variant of the virus has been detected in the state.

"There's no reason for alarm. However, we advise people with symptoms like cold and cough to avoid crowded places," the minister said. He also urged individuals with serious health conditions to refrain from visiting heavily populated areas during the festivities.

While the use of face masks is not mandatory, the minister emphasized that wearing one would be a prudent choice in public gatherings.

As per the latest data, Odisha has reported a total of 49 COVID-19 cases so far. Out of these, 15 people have recovered, and only 34 cases remain active.

Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation closely and have assured that all necessary precautions are in place to ensure a safe and smooth Rath Yatra celebration.
