Cuttack, July 9: A headless body of an unidentified woman was recovered from the Kathajodi River under the jurisdiction of Purighat Police Station in Cuttack today.

According to police, local residents noticed the body floating in the river during the morning and immediately informed the authorities. A police team reached the spot, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination.

The identity of the deceased remains unknown.

The absence of the woman's head has made the identification process particularly difficult, said police.

Based on preliminary findings, police suspect the incident may be a case of murder. They believe the woman may have been killed at another location before being beheaded, with the body later dumped in the river in an apparent attempt to conceal evidence.
