Cuttack, Sep 12: Commissionerate Police on Tuesday initiated actions to freeze the bank accounts of playback singer Sourin Bhatt in connection with a harassment case lodged by a woman in Odisha’s Cuttack city on August 12.
According to the report, police have written to the Bank of Baroda Corporation Bank branches in Kolkata to freeze two accounts of the singer. Earlier on Monday, police had issued a lookout circular (LOC) against Bhatt.
The LOC was issued after the police failed to trace him in Kolkata, his native place and other three places in the city. The singer reportedly stays in Mumbai, said sources.
The Orissa High Court had earlier rejected Bhatt’s bail petition and vacated the interim protection it had granted.
Worth mentioning, a woman banker from Cuttack on June 12 had accused the Ollywood singer of sexually harassing her and duping lakhs of rupees.
Anticipating arrest, Sourin had sought relief from the Orissa High Court and prayed for an anticipatory bail. The court had granted interim protection to the singer on August 1. However, the Court had also directed the playback singer to cooperate in the police investigation at every point.
Meanwhile, the police investigation revealed that Sourin had a relationship with the complainant for the last few years, which he had denied before the police during the statement record. At the same time, the sleuths had also found a number of bank transactions with the woman. Subsequently, a four-member team of Commissionerate Police visited Sourin’s house in Kolkata on June 22. However, the team had to return empty-handed as the singer was not found there.
