Sundargarh, Oct 17: A tragic road accident near the Kalunga Industrial Area under Brahmanitarang police limits claimed the life of a woman labourer early this morning. The deceased has been identified as Meena Chandan.

According to police sources, the incident occurred around 6:30 AM when Meena was on her way to work, riding a bicycle towards the Kalunga Industrial Area. At the same time, a Bolero vehicle carrying eight passengers from Vedvyas was en route to the same locality. The vehicle allegedly lost control and hit Meena near the industrial square, killing her on the spot.

Following the incident, local residents staged a road blockade demanding compensation for the victim’s family. Tension prevailed in the area until Brahmanitarang police arrived and managed to pacify the agitated crowd, restoring normalcy.

The body has been seized by police and sent to the government hospital morgue in Rourkela for post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, the driver of the Bolero reportedly fled the scene after the accident. However, the vehicle has been seized, and an investigation is underway.
