Guidelines issued for class 5 and 8 annual exams

Bhubaneswar, Oct 23: The Odisha School and Mass Education Department has issued new guidelines for conducting annual examinations for Class 5 and Class 8 students. The exams will carry 50 marks, and students must score at least 30% to pass. Those who fail will get a chance to appear for a supplementary test.

Question papers will be prepared and printed at the district level based on the assessment framework of TE and SCERT and kept under strict security. On the exam day, papers will reach schools in the morning under the supervision of designated teams.

For Class 5, the test will include 10 marks for oral and 40 marks for written assessment, while Class 8 will have a 50-mark written paper.

A three-tier steering committee has been formed at the state, district, and block levels to oversee the process. Training will be provided to DIET, DEO, BEO, and CRCC officials to ensure smooth implementation.

The question papers will include 30% questions from the pre-Summative Assessment–1 syllabus and 70% from the later portion. The entire process—from printing to delivery—will be conducted under tight security and confidentiality.
