Bhubaneswar, Sept 22: As the GST 2.0 with next-generation reforms came into effect, the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation Limited (OMFED) slashed prices on several dairy products.
The price cuts apply to packaged milk, paneer, flavoured milk, butter, and ghee and will provide relief to consumers statewide.
As per the revised pricing, OMFED’s 500 ml UHT tetra pack has been reduced by Rs 2, now priced at Rs 37, while the one-litre pack is cut by Rs 3, bringing it down to Rs 67. Paneer prices have also been revised, with the 200-gram pouch now costing Rs 75, a reduction of Rs 5, and the 500-gram pack dropping by Rs 10 to Rs 180.
Flavoured milk in 180 ml bottles is now available for Rs 23, down by Rs 2. Additionally, table butter has become more affordable, with the 100-gram pack now priced at Rs 57 after a Rs 3 reduction, and the 500-gram pack dropping by Rs 18 to Rs 272.
The price of ghee has been significantly reduced, with 200 ml, 500 ml, and 1-litre tins now cheaper by Rs 10, Rs 25, and Rs 45, respectively. In addition, the 5-litre poly jar has seen a reduction of Rs 220, bringing its price down to Rs 3,280.
This new price revision follows OMFED's decision in June to raise milk prices due to rising input costs, marking a significant shift in the pricing structure just three months after the increase.
At that time, the federation had increased milk prices by up to Rs 4 per litre, though the state government absorbed part of the hike to alleviate the burden on consumers. The price reduction announced on Sunday is expected to offset some of that earlier impact, particularly for households and small businesses that heavily depend on dairy products.
This price change comes as OMFED is also preparing to expand its product range, with plans to launch its own chocolate brand and bottled water, which it intends to distribute across the state.
